The Fixed Grand Cross(road)
Happy Solstice! Today marks the shortest or longest day of the year in the northern and southern hemispheres. It’s also the 4th anniversary of the Negro Solstice when Black people all over the globe unlocked our superpowers, including our superpower of being deeply unserious. Technically, we always had it, but the December Solstice of 2020 will forever be the day it became super.

As far as I know, there haven’t been any changes to our Real DNA™, but the fixed grand cross on the December Solstice may trigger the desire to change our habits, behaviors, and circumstances.
Grand crosses, also called grand squares, occur between four planets with each planet forming an opposition while simultaneously making squares to two other planets. This creates the shape of a square with a cross or “x” in the middle. These are powerful aspects that can be challenging, but when we put in the work to balance them, they can be incredibly beneficial. I like to think of grand crosses in terms of potential energy in physics. The oppositions and squares are like the tension created by drawing an arrow in a bowstring and when it’s released, it becomes kinetic energy that propels the arrow towards its target. When we balance the energy in the grand cross, we release the tension that will propel us forward.

Today’s grand cross occurs in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) and is arguably the most powerful grand cross of all the modalities (fixed, mutable, and cardinal). Because these energies are fixed and tend to focus on stability and staying the course, their potential for transformative change is powerful. A fixed grand cross can make us feel stuck, but this discomfort can be a catalyst for transformation.
This grand cross involves both inner and outer planets, so we may feel it on both a collective and personal level. This is the last chapter in the story between fire and water that’s unfolded over the last couple of months and the solstice itself is the last stop before we dip below the Kalûnga line. As we enter the realm of our ancestors, we have an opportunity to look for a way forward in their lessons.
