Welcome to the Cosmic Forecast! I usually include timing insights as a special gift to paid subscribers, but I made this one open and free. I want to change how I do Cosmic Forecasts and dive deeper into themes and energetics rather than predictions. The old format became too rigid for me, so it’s time to switch it up! From now on, I’ll share more about astrological themes rather than just specific dates and offer supportive herbal remedies and other insights to get through them.
Enjoy!
The Sidereal Cosmic Forecast
Mars made harsh contact with every lunar transit last month. It brought its fiery, dry heat to the cooling, moistening waters of every lunation, making our emotions boil to the top like a pot of water on an open flame. After squaring up with the Full Moon in Aries one final time, Mars plunged into the salty waters of Cancer on October 22. When Mars dives into Cancer, our internal fires and vitality can be tempered by the nurturing waters of love for our hearth and home. Mars also rules iron and weaponry, and when it hangs out with the water signs, it makes me think of the process of forging and how ironwork requires both fire and water to make it pliable enough to shape. In Cancer, the forge becomes the hearth, and water helps us form the dough that the hearth’s fire will bake into our sustenance. Mars in Cancer strengthens our desire to protect our loved ones and its relentless drive becomes a relentless hunger to nourish our ambitions.
November picks up where October left off, giving us more opportunities to balance the energies of fire and water in the sky. On November 15 (and 16, depending on your timezone), the Sun moves into icy-hot Scorpio, the Moon moves into “here for a good time, not a long time” Aries, and Mars continues its two-month-long transit through Cancer. We can channel all the fire and water in the air to strengthen our discernment skills and get into some deep, transformative work.

Heart-centered intuition
November began with a New Moon in Libra and the Full Moon in Aries/Taurus will arrive two weeks later on the 15th with the Sun in Scorpio. There’s a lot of water (Venus, Cancer, and Scorpio) and fire (Mars, Sagittarius, and Aries) swirling in the cosmos right now. When fire and water are in balance, they help us connect our intuition with the desire to actively shape the world we want to live in.
Fire and Mars represent our vitality and drive, respectively. A balanced fire keeps us alive like a warming campfire or hearth. It fuels our creativity and passions, and like a light in the dark, it helps us see a way through when it feels like our backs are against the wall. Fire inspires a zest for life and makes us believe in ourselves without a shred of doubt. In excess, it can make us short-tempered, restless, accusatory, overbearing, and burnt out. When the fire is low, we can feel depressed and pessimistic, and have a hard time connecting with our joy and imagination.
Like all the elements, fire and water are intuitive, though they may access that intuition in different ways.
In contrast, water and Venus represent our capacity for empathy and desire for connections. When water is in balance, its cooling flow supports emotional intelligence, reflection, and empathy. It helps us connect with the dream world and root our visions in reality. It can expand our perception and help us resonate with the complexities of life. When our emotions are heightened, water can cool them down, whether we sip it, pour a little on our heads, or fully submerge ourselves. In excess, it can slow our digestion, make us too easily influenced by others, and struggle with setting healthy boundaries. When the waters run dry, we tend to lose some of our empathy and have a more rigid outlook on life.
Like all the elements, fire and water are intuitive, though they may access that intuition in different ways. Fire’s intuition is bright and sharp, while water’s intuition can be submerging and receptive. When the two intuitive styles meet, they can shed light on hidden motives and deep wounds while staying true to the heart of the matter. This kind of clear-eyed discernment is going to be very important as we continue to see misinformation, AI, and propaganda flood our social feeds.
Real eyes realize real lies
When the 2024 US election results rolled in, I logged off because I knew what was next. The deluge of think-pieces, tweets, thoughts, opinions, and feelings was expected, but I was really keeping my eyes peeled for divisive rhetoric. Social media did not disappoint. Like clockwork, whenever liberation movements gain traction, those who oppose them look for destabilizing moments to strike discord. Like a steel chair sailing through the air, they lob lies and misinformation exactly where they will spread the fastest, and in this day and age, that means Twitter and TikTok.
Within hours of the election results becoming official, I saw a tweet asking if it’s “okay” to go back to Starbucks and McDonald’s, people joking about calling ICE to get people deported, and a TikTok about how the Palestinian movement will fail because the election results will alienate Black people (I still don’t understand the correlation). All of these tweets, videos, and “jokes” are part of the long tradition of creating division within movements against white supremacy. Each of these messages uses sentiments that already exist (anti-immigration and anti-Blackness) to attempt to create gaps in our solidarity with each other. Fortunately, from what I’ve seen, just as quickly as these tweets and videos popped up, even more tweets and videos vehemently shut the nonsense down.
The US election results are a cog in the current rise of global fascism and I expect to see more of these kinds of divisive tactics spring up as we continue to collaborate and work together against them. We will need the teachings of fire and water to remind us to keep our vision clear so we can keep our eyes on the real issues at hand. As Toni Morrison once said, “…the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work.” Fire and water bring us discerning, heart-centered medicine that can help us stay focused on our liberatory work and see through the bullshit of the things that try to distract us from it.
Thank you for reading! In the next few posts, I’ll continue to chat about fire and water and their relationship with the heart and our circulatory system, including a recipe for some much-needed herbal medicine for the heart.
