Happy New Moon! After a busy weekend full of family activities, I’m spending the day watching comfort shows and journaling, and I’m grateful for this moment of peace so I can meet this New Moon’s energy. In today’s post, we’re learning about Basil, a Taurean herbal ally, and how it can help us integrate the lessons of today’s New Moon in Taurus. Enjoy! <3

Mars years represent the gateway between endings and beginnings, and these liminal spaces can be powerful initiation points. In many of our African Spiritual Traditions, our first initiation is into the families we were born or raised in. As we leave the realm of spirit to enter the physical realm, we take the gifts and challenges of our ancestors with us, and it is up to us to learn how to use them in this life. As we travel on our journeys, there are plant allies that are part of our lineage that walk with us, some that choose us, and some that come along to carry us through specific seasons. Whether Basil is part of your lineage or your season, its sharp-sighted dragon energy is welcome during this Taurus season and today’s New Moon in Taurus.

Materia medica for Basil

Basil moves heat through the body and stokes our inner fire to prepare us to meet what comes next. It’s an adaptive nervine that brings us up when we’re down and helps us relax when we’re too activated. Initiations of all kinds can bring up a myriad of emotions, so having such an adaptive and flexible ally on our side can be very supportive.
